Growing up in the early 2000’s my music taste was based on whatever was playing on the radio or the CDs/Mixtapes made by my family. This meant I had a wide range of musical exposure. Some of the genres consisted of pop, hip-hop/r&b, punk rock, and reggae.
In my teenage years, I would begin to gravitate towards hip-hop, rap, and r&b. I would stay consistent in these three genres with little to no interest in others. That was until my early 20s, where I felt a staleness in the music I was consuming. I was beginning to get bored with what I was listening to and sought out the excitement of discovering new sounds. Since that first sense of excitement, I’ve made it a personal goal of mine to broaden my horizons and dip into a new genre each year. In my next post, I will take my time in telling you some of my highlights throughout my journey and artists I’ve come to love.
